Opern Cafe in Leipzig

Positive: + directly in the opera house, good for strengthening yourself before or after the performance. + Large terrace. + A pleasant atmosphere inside too. + Good service. Negative: - The food was rather canteen quality with mistakes (fish too spicy fried in cheap fat, meat tough). - The prices are generally too high for what is on offer, especially for Leipzig conditions.

The claims on their current website of being "exclusive" and offering "culinary peaks" are wildly exaggerated. The food is edible, but by no means exclusive. The fish dish I ate was probably made from frozen fish. They don't even manage to serve a decent Spaghetti-eis (spaghetti ice cream), instead I got an industrial ice cream with a syrupy sauce. The service was prompt and friendly.

On Pentecost I am with my family (husband, 3 children) in the city center. This weekend was WGT, city festival and children's party on the Augustusplatz. So the city was pretty crowded, we wanted to get back to the car from the Ferris wheel, towards the train station, when my smallest daughter (4) and I needed to go to the toilet, but unfortunately we did not find a public toilet. And I have to stress really URGENT, after 3 children, woman can not stop now so long. The next option was the Opera Café. So we go to the café. Polite we asked if we could use the toilet for a short time. The restaurant management sent us very decisive and rude to the devil, with the words, this is not a public toilet. I find that pretty sad and unfriendly. I myself am from Leipzig and have been a guest at this café several times, including the opera. We do not look decollated, nor did I have to leave the toilet dirty. We just needed to be very urgent and we would have been grateful if we had been able to make our emergency. A big MERCI at this point.

Very courteous and super friendly staff, the food was good, but rather not the prices appropriate. For something that read the card very well, but then "normal good" tasted, I would like to spend no 18-20 ¬. The spaghetti ice cream for dessert was evidently a Convinience product, which we thought was a pity. That just does not fit in the ambience in which we still felt comfortable.

After "Carmen", we rounded off the great evening at the Opera Café. Super friendly service, the food was delicious and well presented. Nice that at this late time still some warm dishes were. A relaxed atmosphere ... satisfied.
